WIP Pencils "The Last Supper" by jfkpaint WIP Pencils "The Last Supper" by jfkpaint
Pencils on masonite, 18x24, work in progress

Some people seemed to like the progress photos of my last piece, so I thought I would document this one also.

It is going to be a pointillist piece of the "Last Supper" made to look like a stained glass window. Commission for my church.

I have really let my drawing skills rust over the past year. It has already taken 6 days to draw the figures. Thankfully I haven't forgotten how to use an eraser.

Next step is to complete the background drawing, then outline the design with black dots... then I can finally start to put on some dots of color

I hope you have great patience. I should put an update on in a few days. I have put black dots over the pencils and am working on the background design now. I hope to start actually painting in a few days... then... a month??

Hi Miguel. I took a look at your drawings, if you don't mind, I'd like to give you a little advice to improve. Shadows and Highlights! I can see that you are drawing and shading what you are seeing. The dark shadows and highlights sometime need to be exaggerated to add depth/dimension/realism. Darker darks and lighter lights then what you see. Try it out and see what happens!

Hi Teresa.. Hope all is well with you. I have gone over the pencils with black dots (to keep from rubbing off the pencils with my wrist as I paint), but also because I'm trying to make it look like a stained glass window, the black dots serve as the "Lead" that holds the glass together.

Say hi to Brittany for me

All the Best

Jim
