Father and Son by jfkpaint Father and Son by jfkpaint
Acrylic on canvas, commission

Stefan and his new born son Louis. One of those tender moments of a father and son.

(I hate painting hair.........)

Thanks. Little Louis is growing up and talking now. Indeed done with Acrylic. Over the years, I've bought way to many tubes of acrylic paint to switch. Not cost effective.

Thank you. I just chatted with the "Father" yesterday. The "Son" is now 17 months old and starting to talk. Time moves on and a painting is just a moment in time.

:) It's easy to see how fast time flies by looking at children. But this moment will be kept for years, and it's one of greatest moments of parenthood ;)

Thank you so much Myrium. I finally was able to hand deliver the canvas to the proud father in Munich (had to trudge through snow for the final delivery). He had it framed and wrapped it as a Christmas gift for the lovely mother. When I heard it brought tears to her eyes, it made all the efforts worthwhile.

It was a special moment, I'm happy I saved it for posterity.

Your piece "Silence" is beautiful. It gave me a calm. Good luck in your search to find your name... Have to be careful though... Give the "Talking Heads" song "Seen and Not Seen"... and you will understand the concern!

All the Best

Jim

Sorry for being enigmatic... when I went to your home page, below "diantha 75" It said "I want to change my name". I was making a joke about this... and that is what the Talking Head song touches on in a round about way

Thank you Joe.... I normally say "No" to child portrait requests... But the photo I was sent from my friend was just too special... I have been trying to get this painting to the Father (Stefan) in Munich for the past six months.... I have had two unsuccessful attempt so far (very frustrating)... One with the postal services, and one where I tried to take it with me but ended up having my flights cancelled. I try again in two weeks and will hand carry it and try to deliver it on a layover in Munich...

Thank you Belle, Your words make me feel so good. This truly was a beautiful moment and I enjoyed rendering it in paint. I'm also very happy that the embrace series is touching you. That is the whole point behind doing it. To capture the feeling without actually painting realistic people... concept over pretty painting, feeling over naked bodies...So happy you get it!

Indeed it did  I think what helps, in just getting straight to the emotion in your series is the ambiguity of the figures. No specifics. No exact facial features. No exact body parts, but it's enough to speak volumes of what the message is, without details to muddle it. =)

Great stuff dear!!

Thanks Ros, guess I can't take real credit for the emotion. Stefan (my friend) sent me the photo I painted from and the emotion of his kiss on his newborn son was a moment that touched me, and I wanted to paint. I think if I am to do portraits, it has to be something special like this.

Thanks Tom, the painting of Uschi and Colleen was a bit more difficult basically because Uschi's face was full on with her eyes wide open and I didn't have to do that with Stefan and Louis. The challenge of the hair on the baby's head was similar to painting Colleen's hair...
